Our Partners

The Centre receives valuable support and assistance from a range of partner organisations in fulfilling its objectives. Here follows a list of some of these organisations:

Sabhal Mr Ostaig

Sabhal Mr Ostaig, the Gaelic College on the Isle of Skye, is the Columba Centres academic partner and since its formation in 1973 has steadily grown to become a thriving Gaelic-medium college offering a broad range of subjects from Gaelic language and culture to business management. A small and friendly college, it nevertheless enjoys an international reputation as well as playing a key role in Gaelic development in Scotland. It provides students with an excellent learning environment in a stunning location.

Brd na Gidhlig (Alba):

Brd na Gidhlig (Alba) is a Non-Departmental Public Body (NDPB) and the Brd is appointed by, and accountable to, Scottish Ministers. Brd na Gidhlig (Alba) will be responsible for the overall direction and management of the National Plan for Gaelic.

UHI Millennium Institute

Sabhal Mr Ostaig is one of 14 partners in the UHI Millennium Institute and, as the Colleges academic partner, the Columba Centre is part of the UHI network of community learning centres. The UHI network is based upon an educational partnership offering higher education in different locations around the Highlands and Islands. Each partner has its own distinctive character and strengths. Together they offer the educational advantages and facilities of a larger institution with the personal attention only a local college can provide.

Argyll and the Islands Enterprise

AIE aims to enable the people of Argyll and the Islands to realise their full potential. This aim will be achieved by the development of a buoyant economy driven by competitive businesses, creating a wide range of opportunities for skilling the workforce and helping the inhabitants build vibrant communities.

The European Social Fund

The European Social Fund (ESF) is one of four Structural Funds designed to strengthen economic and social cohesion in the European Union. It aims to help unemployed and inactive people enter work; provide opportunities for people at a disadvantage in the labour market; promote lifelong learning; develop the skills of employed people; and improve womens participation in the labour market. The Scottish Executive is responsible for delivery of ESF in Scotland.

Argyll & Bute Council

The full range of services and up to date information provided by Argyll & Bute Council is available at their website.

Argyll & the Islands LEADER

The Argyll and the Islands LEADER Programme is a rural development initiative which is being delivered under the Scotland Rural Development Programme (SRDP).  It is hoped that LEADER may inspire local individuals and groups to take the first steps on a road that will lead to real improvements in everyday living within their communities. That this in turn will be an inspiration to others who wish to see these improvements reflected in their own lives and communities.
